DIY PACKING TIPS

ESSENTIALS BOX

Make a box of essentials and label it "Open Me First". Put this box to the side to be loaded last (so it’s unloaded first) or move it yourself. Your essential box will include: important items like passports and medication. Basic tools such as a knife, screwdrivers, an adjustable spanner and tape. Add hand towels, soap, toilet paper and anything else you may need to find quickly once you have arrived.

CLEARLY LABEL ALL BOXES

We suggest you label boxes when they are packed and sealed. Clearly indicate on the box its room destination.

We can help you with as many moving boxes as you need.

GET MORE BOXES THAN YOU THINK YOU WILL NEED

Pack boxes firmly to prevent the contents from shifting during your move. Reinforce the bottom of boxes with at least two strips of packing tape. Place heavier items in the bottom of the box and lighter items on top.

THINK ABOUT HOW YOU'RE PACKING

Wrap items with packing paper to prevent scratches caused by rubbing. Remove lids from jars and ceramics. Wrap each separately. Use towels, linens, curtains, etc. to pad fragile items in boxes. Clearly mark these boxes "FRAGILE". Ask us to mail you these labels.

PROTECT YOUR PERSONAL EFFECTS

Ask us if you can leave clothes in dresser drawers. Normally it is fine when moving from ground floor to ground floor, but if it's going up or down stairs you'll need to empty them.

THINK ABOUT THE WEIGHT

As a rule with boxes, try not to pack them heavier than 15kg. That might mean only half filling the box with books and filling the rest with bed pillows to keep the weight down.
